This dream plays on a lot of actual real memories.
I parked my car a ways down from the corner store. I had just bought a bottle of water, but I wanted a second. "You don't need a second," *she* said, but I protested with, "but I want one."
I go inside the store, passing a scruffy dirty blond guy in a red shirt smoking a cig. It's changed a bit since I was there as a child, and a bit more since I last visited it in my dreams. There's a new person behind the counter, slightly chubby, brunette. I found where they stocked the water and grabbed a 20 oz bottle. He rang it up. "8.34", he told me.
I looked at him and looked at the bottle of water. "It's just the water I'm getting."
"It's $8."
"You've got to be kidding me." I reached in my purse and put a lot of change on the counter. If he's going to charge that much, I thought, then he can count it out himself.
Two handfuls of change were in my purse, and the $10 bill. [Less change, but an exact account of what was in my purse this morning.] I hid the 10.
He counted all my change, gave me a stack of dollar bills. "Really?" I said, wondering if I really had that much change in my purse.
I saw a childhood friend and 2 other guys that looked like they could be his brothers or cousins in the store. [This guy actually only has a younger sister in waking life.] He said hello to me and I smiled back. He then alerted me that I had a "bat in the cave." I thank him, and walked out of the store, clearing my nose as I left.
Where's my car?
I looked at where I knew I had parked my car and places I *might* have. I walked back to the store's entrance and asked red-shirt guy, "Did you hear a tow-truck earlier?"
"Sure did."
"It's 15 minute parking. What's with that?"
"You should get them to reimburse you," he offered.
I walked back in the store. "What's the number of the tow-truck company you use?"
"What?" The cashier asked.
"The tow-truck company, What's the number?"
---
"What did you just say?", my husband mumbled.
*My alarm starts going off*
Well, fuck it, I thought getting out of bed to shut off the alarm. Guess the tow-truck doesn't matter anymore.
